DIY Wine Armoire

I saw this image over at Love Where You Live's blog, http://www.thegreenplum.blogspot.com/. It is Maria Gabriela Brito's Wine Cellar, Wine Closet. It got me to thinking, as I have no extra space in my 1947 house, where I could do a wine area. Like Maria, we too collect wine, and art. She has a new business Lifestyling by Maria Gabriela Brito.

So, I went looking for an extra closet, which I do not have. My husband is currently working on a wine room in our garage, as he makes wine, but not finished. So I still have a need for a wine cellar/closet/cupboard. See below....

This armoire, cabinet, used to hold a TV at my Dad's house. He sent it over here, and it was an entry catch all. See all the stuff it is catching. Well, I moved some wine glasses in it and it was immediate love. Stop by tomorrow for the finished project.

A project in a day. I love it. And, who doesn't have left over armoire's from TV's?

Frozen Swirl Margaritas

Both great margarita pics found on Flickr.

Having lived in Austin, Texas many years ago the hubs and I were reminiscing over Chuy's fun and tasty Swirl Margaritas.

Great with or without alcohol. Two ways to make them.

1 - Make a batch each of traditional and strawberry margaritas frozen in a blender, pour half of each in a glass and enjoy. This takes a little practice to keep them from blending when you pour.

2 - Make a standard non frozen batch each of traditional and strawberry margaritas then put in a plastic shallow pan about 3" deep. Put in freezer, alcohol will not allow for a total freeze. Then when ready scoop out with an ice cream scoop and put one scoop of each in glass and enjoy.

As always please drink responsibly. Never drink and drive.

Seven Layer Dip and Margaritas

Friday Retro Fun. We normally have Margaritas and Nachos on our back patio on Fridays. However, this friday after watching a rerun of Swingtown and hearing about seven layer dip, I decided that would be more fun the nachos.

So for my Margaritas, I use Baja Bob's low carb mix, or Jose Cuervo's mix, and good old Patron, with a squeeze of orange.

Seven layer dip:

I am going with smashed and refried black beans, hamburger meat, mixed cheeses, sour cream, guacamole, scallions, and pico.

YUM!!!

What are you doing this Friday?

Retro Summer Cocktail - The Gimlet - 1960's

I love retro cocktails, and let's face it we are seeing the 60's and 70's everywhere lately, so the Gimlet keeps popping up. Watching an episode of Mad Men, the women were drinking Gimlets. They were also drinking Gimlets on the now cancelled Swingtown. Then when I started reading Julie & Julia, Julie drinks a Gimlet. So I decided to look up the drink for this Wacky Wednesday. I like Gin and it is made with either Gin or Vodka.
Gimlet
1 1/2 oz Gin or Vodka
1/2 oz Rose's Lime Juice
Garnish with Lime

Put into a shaker with ice and strain into a Martini Glass, or serve over ice in a Highball. Add a splash of Sprite or Soda for a Fizzy Gimlet.

Now do I try it original with Gin or with Vodka?
