TV Dinners - Fun and Retro

Do you remember TV Dinners? The Aluminum or Tin Foil. Cooking them for 40-60 minutes? They were fun. You got to choose what you ate, and eat out of the little compartments, and best of all your food was separated, no mixing of the gravy or tastes. Well they still make them, although they are in plastic, and most people microwave them. Take a browse in your supermarket, and pick up one for a crazy dinner evening with the kids or the hubs, and instead of microwaving, find one you can put in the old fashioned oven and enjoy some conversation while it cooks. While you eat, remember the old days. What fun.

Girl's Friday Night Dinner and a Movie

How to Marry a Millionaire is a great Girl's Night Retro Movie. Great clothes and lots of laughs. Stars Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and Lauren Bacall. It has been sent out in press releases that Nicole Kidman is doing a remake set in contemporary times, and will be doing the part played by Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall's part was always my favorite. Anyway, enjoy the old one on your DVD player. For the the dinner, do like the movie, deli sandwiches (cold cuts) and Champagne, if you are feeling adventurous, make them into a grilled sandwich or a pannini.

Thinking of Spring - Fountain

Great fun Rock Bubbler Fountain. Just drill a hole in a rock, use a container underneath to hold your water, and pipe it just below the hole in the rock, then enjoy. Great easy idea to get the sound of water in your garden.

Party Party Party - Superbowl Style

When thinking about the upcoming superbowl and people throwing parties, I ran across this image. It is an old fashioned retro party. Nothing is more fun than a old fashioned smorgasboard where everyone brings something.

Here's a little retro snack:
1 or 2 packs of "Little Smokies"
Your choice of BBQ Sauce
Put in a crock pot and let get hot and tender 1-2 hours, then just keep hot and serve with toothpicks.

Retro Waterfeature Landscape

I love the 50's and 60's. Still beating the winter blues by looking through old books and ran across water features of the 1960's. This would be a great use of old bricks or old cinder block.

Build Your Own Firepit

When thinking about upgrading my own firepit which is shown next to my hot tub, I went looking through a 1967 Sunset Landscaping book. The top three pictures show firepits from the 1960's. I think one of those would be fun and a little more retro. Even if I don't upgrade my existing one, I might build a new one outside my patio. Firepits popular since the 1960's. Everything old is new again.

Retro Movie Tuesday

I couldn't resist a great retro movie -- since New Releases come out on Tuesdays. A great retro one is "Man's Favorite Sport", starring Rock Hudson and Paula Prentiss. It is a great romantic comedy from 1964. You will laugh and you will see "Abercrombie and Fitch" when they were a sporting goods store -- long before they were a teen clothing store.

So go retro this tuesday and look for "Man's Favorite Sport."

Friday Fun

So it is Friday and I am wishing there was a good old fashioned Drive-In Movie theater to go to. It's that everything old is new again feeling. Drive-In's are making a comeback. There are even websites devoted to locating them. So if you are lucky enough to live in a City that has one. Enjoy. Enjoy -- your Friday whatever you do.

ALF

Come on --- you remember ALF. Or, Alien Life Form as he was also referred to on the TV show "ALF" . The show was on from 1986 - 1990. I love ALF. Miss the shows. I have a small ALF that sits on my desk, enjoy the pic. He is really my daughter's but I took it. We used to have a 4' blow-up ALF -- I should dig him out of the garage.
I guess since he was 1986-1990 that would technically make him Vintage.

So you have had all the family dinners Christmas, Thanksgiving, and now you have a lost or broken piece or two of your favorite china. Now is the time to start looking for that replacement piece. There are many great sites, like Replacements Limited, and Ebay, as well as Etsy.
I love this Crest Wood pattern "Fiesta" #1071. It is turquoise, grey, tan and black pine needles on a white background with a silver rim. It truly screams the 1950's and the Eames style that was so popular. Get your "Fiesta" now at:
